Bombay Street Food Recipes

Ingredients:

1. For the chaat masala:

2. 1 tablespoon cumin seeds

3. 1 teaspoon fennel seeds

4. 1 teaspoon black peppercorns

5. 1 teaspoon dried red chili flakes

6. 1 teaspoon ground ginger

7. 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

8. 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

9. 1 tablespoon amchoor powder

10. 1 teaspoon salt

11. For the chaat:

12. 2 cups cooked chickpeas

13. 1/2 cup diced red onion

14. 1/2 cup diced tomatoes

15. 1/2 cup diced cucumber

16. 1/4 cup chopped cilantro

17. 1 tablespoon chaat masala

18. 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice

19. 1/2 cup sev

20. 1/2 cup chopped roasted peanuts

21. 1/4 cup chopped dates

22. 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint leaves

Directions:

1. To make the chaat masala: Toast the cumin, fennel, peppercorns, chili flakes, ginger and cinnamon in a dry skillet over medium heat until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Transfer to a spice grinder and add the cloves, amchoor and salt. Grind to a fine powder.

2. To make the chaat: Combine the chickpeas, onion, tomatoes, cucumber, cilantro, chaat masala and lemon juice in a large bowl.

3. Top with the sev, peanuts, dates and mint leaves. Serve immediately.
